Abigail Broughton - Biography

Abigail Broughton, 17, is studying at the Minster School, Southwell for A-levels in Music, Drama and English Language, where she is a member of two choirs, the senior choir, the concert band and the orchestra. After completing her A-levels, Abigail wishes to pursue a career in singing at one of the British Conservatoires.
Trained by Pamela Cook, MBE, she is a member of the Cantamus Girls Choir and is one of its principal soloists. She joined the training choir age 9, but soon graduated into the senior choir and has enjoyed travelling in the UK and abroad to give concerts and compete in International Choral competitions. With the choir, Abigail has also appeared on television and radio a number of times, sung in the BBC Proms, in the Royal Albert Hall, London and other prestigious venues.
As well as being a singer, Abigail plays the flute, piano and saxophone and has been successful in all the instruments in Music and Drama Festivals. She has won numerous prizes at the Mansfield Music & Drama Festival, including the Sybil Hart trophy for under 12s, the annual Music Bursary (twice) and the Mansfield Town Council Cup for most promising musician. She is currently the holder of the John Ogden Scholarship which is awarded annually by Mansfield District Council in a competition for all musicians up to 16 years. Last year, Abigail was the winner of the Nottingham Young Musician of the Year award, a competition for all musicians up to 18 years.
