If you play an instrument for which there isn't an immediate vacancy but you are an external candidate, we would still like to hear from you. It may be possible for you to attend a rehearsal to get a taste of what we do and get advice from Tutors.
If you are interested in joining any of our orchestras please feel free to email us at any time.
Current members of NYtO and NYiO
All current members of NYtO and NYiO interested in promotion will be evaluated during rehearsals by their sectional tutors during the summer term 2012. The decision as to who will be promoted to the next orchestra will be based on these assessments thus removing the need for a formal audition. The assessment criteria for current members will be based on the attributes detailed earlier along with attendance, behaviour, punctuality etc. This will form part of an on-going process during the summer term, therefore regular attendance is important.
All applicants will be informed of their audition/assessment outcome by the end of July 2012. Unsuccessful candidates auditioning for the Senior or Intermediate orchestras may be offered a place in either the Intermediate or Training orchestra. All applicants will receive written notification of the audition/assessment outcome. All new successful players will be on a 1st term trial. Regular attendance is imperative.
Membership fees and Bursary applications
The NYO is an independent orchestra and a registered charity and depends on membership fees and voluntary donations for it's activities. Membership fees can be paid in three instalments if necessary. Payment letters will be issued via the post during September 2010. Financial support by means of a bursary is available to help those who are unable to afford all or part of the membership fees. If you are interested, the bursary application form can be found in the Download section of this website. As a guide the annual membership fees for 2011- 2012 are as follows:
NYO £310
NYiO £310
NYtO £250
Over 90 musicians were auditioned in 2011 to either join or move up within our 3 orchestras. What was particularly pleasing was that we reached out to more people who had not been part of the orchestra before. Word is obviously getting around that the Nottingham Youth Orchestra is the place to be!
We are keen to encourage applications for 2012 from viola's (come on you violinists - how about giving it a try?) as well as the bassoon which is sadly often overlooked (what about it flautists/clarinettists - stand out from the crowd!) and trumpeters how about giving the horn a go?
