Orchestras
The five orchestras under the NYO umbrella have fun learning as part of a team, working in their groups to play to the best of their ability.
Each orchestra has a team of specialist tutors who are experts in their section’s orchestral instruments whether woodwind, brass, percussion, or strings.

NYO - Nottingham Youth Orchestra
Senior NYO regularly receives praise for its outstanding performances of a wide range of repertoire.

NYIO - Intermediate Orchestra
Intermediate Orchestra performs three concerts a year enjoying classical favourites, film scores, traditional folk and jazz music in excellent arrangements.

NYTO - Training Orchestra
Training Orchestra’s young musicians, of grade 2 standard and above, play a range of styles from classical to pop.

NYJO - Jazz Orchestra
Nottingham Youth Jazz Orchestra is a great place for young musicians to develop their skills and enjoyment of playing jazz, swing, pop, rock, latin, funk and more.

NYWO - Wind Orchestra
The Nottingham Youth Wind Orchestra is a NEW venture launching September 2023. NYWO is designed to give woodwind, brass & percussion players a stage to further showcase their talents.
More than just an orchestra

Beyond NYO
Today's NYO - tomorrow's musical talent. Find out where students can progress to after NYO.

Residentials
Each orchestra’s annual residential weekend is musically intensive and good fun, and usually takes place in Derbyshire. As well as playing lots of music, there is time to relax with varied indoor and outdoor social activities which allow members to get to know one another away from rehearsals.
Workshops
Instrumental workshops are designed to give students both the confidence to explore their own instrument and gain insights into the technical aspects of playing other instruments. Workshop presenters can be professional concert musicians and musicians of different cultural and stylistic backgrounds.
Concert Venues
NYO rehearsals lead up to performances to audiences in concert hall venues in and around Nottingham, including The Royal Concert Hall and Albert Hall, as well as at residential venues, on tour and trips.
