Jonathan Kightley NYTO Tutor

Jonathan grew up in Derbyshire receiving lessons from David Hadwen at Repton School. During this time he played with Stringwise, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Repton and Midlands Youth Orchestras.

He graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music where his teachers were Roger Bigley (ex Lindsay String Quartet), Thomas Riebl (Universität Mozarteum), Chris Rowland (ex Fitzwilliam Quartet) and piano with Paul Janes. During this time Jonathan was a member of RNCM ensembles and the National Musicians Symphony Orchestra. He then completed a PGCE in Nottingham.

Jonathan has extensive teaching and coaching experience including working for the Menuhin Foundation in Bermuda where he arranged workshops with various groups including the English Chamber Orchestra. He has taught upper strings in schools and at university level and was the viola section tutor for Grampian Youth Orchestra. Currently Jonathan teaches for Our Lady of Lourdes Academy Trust.

Jonathan maintains an active freelance performance schedule having performed under the batons of Sir Mark Elder, Gianandrea Noseda, Vassily Sinaisky, and Garry Walker.
