Katharine (Kate) Ley
NYTO Cellos

Kate is originally from North Lincolnshire and relocated to Newark in 2024. She loves all aspects of music and has purposefully aimed for her career to centre around performance and teaching work. Kate performs with her cello as a soloist, in chamber music and as an orchestral musician.
Kate's main influences include her studies with cellists Raphael Wallfisch & Felix Schmidt, the Royal Northern College of Music where she graduated with a First, and her earlier studies at the Royal Birmingham Junior Conservatoire.
As well working at Nottingham Youth Orchestra and her private teaching practice, Kate teaches at West Bridgford School and at Worksop College & Ranby House. Striving to improve her teaching skills, she undertook a PGCEi in Group Instrumental Teaching led by Music Masters and Birmingham City University.
“It is a pleasure to have been welcomed into the NYO community. It's truly wonderful to teach the cello students at NYTO, be part of their musical journey and work alongside the NYO team.”
