Jane Benson
NYO 2nd Violins
Jane fell in love with the violin aged 6 after hearing a string quartet perform at her school. After nagging her parents endlessly she was finally allowed to have lessons through the Barnsley Music Services and ended up as leader of Barnsley Youth Orchestra. Those wonderful formative times of playing in youth orchestras have inspired Jane to pass on that joy to future generations of young musicians.
Jane went on to study music at Colchester Institute where she took up the viola, and has since devoted her life to teaching violin and viola to all ages and abilities.
Jane is an experienced conductor and tutor of children’s orchestras and plays with many local orchestras and chamber groups.
“I am a huge advocate for the viola and encourage all my violin students to try it, many of whom have also fallen in love with its warm rich tones and beautiful sonority.”
