Training Orchestra's Forest Music & Outdoor Activity Day at Walesby Forest

On Sunday 7th June 2026 Training Orchestra's fourth trip to leafy, airy Walesby Forest was another success on both weather and musical fronts. NYTO members plus tutors enjoyed Walesby's outdoor activity centre and filled the forest with orchestral marching and dance sounds from their base in the large marquee!

Both the weather and students shone on the morning's activities: showing prowess on the outdoor Low Ropes and the more challenging Climbing Wall; excelling at team work in the Cave Maze; enjoying Tomahawk throwing; plus finding the nerve to take on the Wobble Pole. All the NYTO youngsters were impeccably behaved and listened carefully to the safety briefings of the Walesby staff. We were very proud of each and everyone of our group.

After a picnic lunch and a trip to the gift shop, Training Orchestra had an afternoon of orchestral music making reading music that was new to them plus they planned some fun for parents when the day ended with a rehearsal performance to families. In short, parents found that conducting is not nearly as easy as it looks! However, tutors were delighted because the young musicians watched and followed the varied beats with some amusement and a great degree of success!

Once again, when everybody had gone home and tutors were helping to take the bunting down and pack away, they commented on how well behaved and what great company the students were! Thank you parents for getting them all there on time and coming to applaud them at the end of the day.

Thank you also to Conductor Dave, NYTO's fab tutors and Catharine behind the scenes for your hard work which enabled the day to be such a success!
